December

Sadly we didn't manage to hold the Christmas Breakfast in the new HQ, as it was felt that eating in what is still essentially a building site was perhaps a little too dangerous for us! However, it's safe to say that the 2012 breakfast will be taking place there.

November

By the end of the month both the Viking and the Jubilant will be out of the water for the winter, with the Jubilant undergoing extensive repainting and repair work. We should have them both back on the river next March. Thanks to the 3rd Osterley Sea Scouts for giving them a home for the winter.

Meanwhile the new building is now starting to tower over the old hut. With luck we'll be having the Christmas breakfast in there...

September

September 17th saw two 14th Richmond crews take part in The Great River Race. Despite the somewhat challenging conditions (very heavy rain, strong winds, thunder, lightning...) the Jubilant made it home in three hours and four minutes, with the Old Rovers in the Viking finishing in five hours and 43 minutes. Well done to both crews and onwards to next year's race!

August

The Lady Mayoress and Jubilant again took part in the annual Spelthorne River Day and Sunbury Regatta, with the Lady Mayoress being crewed by members of our Great River Race team. Many thanks to Areen Design Services for the new shirts!

We are now a British Rowing "Explore Rowing" Accredited Centre. You can see what that means for us (and you) here.

The steelwork for the new building is finally appearing; still looking good for us to move in the autumn.

May

After 57 years in The Hut, we will be moving into new premises in the autumn of 2011. We will still be in Retreat Road, but we will now be based in part of the new development below (architects impression).

You can see a plan of the new building and where we fit into it here. Work is continuing on the new site, and soon the old hut will be gone forever...

In the meantime we will be doing our best to get get more under 18's out on the water this year.

Rowing Statistics

Last year we had a record 756 children come along and row with us. Whilst overall numbers are down slightly as we don't take out as many adults as we used to, the rise in under 18's is encouraging for the future of "proper" rowing on the Thames!
